There is a cautious assumption that open gravitational waves

A team of researchers from LIGO Scientific Collaboration (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), detect gravitational waves, if this information would be true, it will be one of the most important discoveries of physics in the last century.

The gravitational waves were first predicted by Einstein's general theory of relativity in 1916, when the technology necessary for their detection did not yet exist. Their existence was indirectly confirmed when observations of the binary pulsar PSR 1913+16 (the Nobel Prize in Physics 1993 was awarded to Hulse and Taylor for this discovery).

For experimental detection gravitational waves of cosmic origin in 1992 whose implementation of project proposals  Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). Authors of the project Kip Thorne and Ronald Drever of Caltech and Rainer Weiss of MIT. LIGO is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) at a total cost of $620 million.
